Confirmation preparation occurs during the 5th and 6th grade years, with Confirmation taking place in the spring of 6th grade. Please see the "Faith Formation" tab under "Parish Faith Formation" for more information about the program.
For adults wishing to be confirmed, please see the RCIA link under “Faith Formation”.
REQUIREMENTS Parents and pastors of souls are obliged to ensure that the faithful receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the proper time (c.890). In the Diocese of Bismarck, as per the letter from Bishop Kagan,
“As of July 1, 2014, all of our young people must receive this Sacrament by no later than the 2nd semester of the sophomore year of high school. While our young people may receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from the age of reason (age 7), I leave to the pastors to make the needed adjustments, if necessary, to their current preparation programs to accommodate the new and established maximum age for the Sacrament of confirmation" (February 13, 2013).
SPONSORS The requirements for a sponsor for confirmation are the same as that for a godparent or Baptism: the sponsor must be Catholic (either Latin Rite or Eastern Rite), over the age of 16, confirmed, and practicing the Catholic religion (c. 874). It is recommended, but not required, that the baptismal godparent also be the Confirmation sponsor. Parents may not be sponsors for their children.
