Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori based religion program offering a hands-on approach to catechesis. Christ the King will again be offering this opportunity for the youngest children of the Parish.
Registration is currently open for children that will be 3, 4 or 5 years of age this fall. The program is specifically designed to meet the child of this age where they are at developmentally. Therefore, it is very important that children begin at a young age.
All materials in the atrium (CGS religion room) have been carefully crafted by the catechists who have undergone extensive training in order to best serve your child. The children will learn about the infancy narratives, experience a taste of the liturgical life of the Church, understand the geography of the land of Israel, as well as the major parables in Holy Scripture. All lessons are taught one-on-one or in a small group of two to three children. Each session has a catechist and a trained aide in the room.
This program has an intense, but simple beauty to it. Parents marvel at what their children learn from their time in the atrium.
Classes will begin in September 2024, and continue through the end of April, following the Mandan Public School calendar. We encourage early registration, as class sizes are limited to a small number of children.
Christ the King will offer one session this year:
Wednesdays
3:45pm-5:15pm
Our opening night will be in September, 2024. Registration forms are due to the Christ the King parish office by the end of July, 2024.
*Please note that the children will be slowly introduced into the atrium environment. Therefore, classes will begin at 30 minutes and work their way up to 1 1/2 hours as the year progresses. During the first introductory session, parents new to Catechesis of the Good Shephered will have a 20-minute informational meeting before their children go into the atrium.
Christ the King Catholic Montessori School offers Level I (ages 3-6), Level II (ages 6-9), and Level III (ages 9-12) of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to the children during the school day.
Please view the video below for a greater understanding of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Registration form and the intake form for new children can also be found below.
